The Under 6 Phantoms travelled down to Armidale to take on the DK Spears on Saturday. We were a few troops short this week and were very thankful to have Anna from the Under 6 Caspers fill in so we could field a full team. All the kids played the whole game and put in a huge effort until the very end. In a great show of sportsmanship, we also had Oliver from the DK team play for us for the first few minutes of the game until Anna could join us. Well done to all, for a really fun game!
Under 8 Goosebumps this week played DK Shields. Guyra has been improving every week with passing the ball around as a team and it showed this week with some good passing for Vinnie Furphy and Stirling Turner goals. Orlando and Eli had good games in attack and defence and Haidee in defence and Thomas and Elinor had good games as goal keeper.
Under 10 Phoenix travelled to Armidale this week to take on Armidale City. Our team had a great game! There was a lot more passing, spreading out, and holding positions. This resulted in an early goal which City then followed. But come the second half our team had the upper hand and had the majority of ball, which resulted in us coming away with the win! Both Aiden and Nathan went fab in goalkeeper! So proud of their improvement!
Under 12s played at the home this week against Westside. The Guyra side were very positive and full of energy ready to test out the new nets. The game was fast moving with some lots of good passing and skilful play but also solid defence. Peter got the opener to give us an early lead but Westside hit back to go 1-1 at half time.
With a good chat at half time the Guyra side turned it up in the second half and played their best soccer this year. The attack was on point just not able to capitalise and the defence was holding each attack back extremely well. Finally we broke the deadlock with Oskar and Chaise combining to slot the winner.
This week everyone played their part in a very exciting game for all that was there to witness it. Standouts this week were Hamish in the goal, Miles in defence, Oskar best on field today, and Chaise and Harry in attack
Under 14s played Easts in Guyra on Saturday with one member of Guyra not being confident as he saw what his school friends could do for Easts.
This didn’t matter at the end of the day, even after Easts opened the scoring in the first 2 minutes of the game. This was quickly matched from the team’s top goal scorer Taharn Purvis who placed it in the net from out wide.
Guyra continued to apply the pressure and Flynn McFarlane pushed it past the goalie from in front soon after. A break in concentration saw Easts roll through the middle to level the score once again. The score would go to the break at 3 all with another goal each.
The second half was all one-way traffic and seen the Guyra side post three more goals, with two new scores of Oscar and Charles and the two double from Taharn and Flynn to finish the game 6 to 3.
This could have been the side’s best game of the season and despite the slow start they continue to build and look for a spot in the finals coming into the back end of the season.
