Guyra seconds take the trophy in T20 competition

28th Jan 2025

Guyra’s second grade cricket side has come away as champions in the Armidale District Cricket T20 competition.
It followed a defeat in the final round of games played on January 25th. Guyra were up agaisnt Easts Green who made 7/103 and then dismissed Guyra for just 39 runs.
The side were in better form the following day and had a good win against Easts Yellow in final which was played on Australia Day.
After winning the toss Guyra, with a formidable bowling attack, decided to use this weapon by sending their opponents in to bat.
The bowlers didn’t disappoint, bowling Easts out in 20th over for a modest 85. Great spells from Corey Torrens (3-17), Brendan Landsborough (3-20), Heath Dowsett (3-10) and Tahmani Landsborough (1-20) who were the pick of bowlers.
Chasing this small total proved tricky at times and at one stage Guyra were 3 for 29, before man of match Kyle Mongta started to get on top of attack. He rounded the total up with consecutive 6s and to finish 47 not out.
Kyle’s fifth wicket partnership with Les Perrett proved the difference with some great game management shown by both.
Guyra edged ahead in the 18th over to finish with 4/85 and the win.
In other grades, Hillgrove 0/29 defeated City UNE 10/28 in a low scoring first grade clash and Hillgrove 1/75 defeated Walch/Uralla 10/73 in third grade.
