Junior Rugby League

On Monday night the Guyra Junior Rugby League Committee meet to start organising the 2021 season. The club is looking strong with teams from under 7’s to under 17’s and all girls league tag teams, Junior League Tag, Intermediate League Tag and Senior League Tag.
Volunteers are always needed to run a successful season of football. The club is needing parents/carers or anyone from the community to volunteer as League Safe and Sports Trainers. The club will pay for your training and provide all that is required. If you are interested please contact the club.
On Friday the 26th February 2021 Guyra Junior Rugby League are holding a Registration/Come and Try night at the Guyra Sporting Complex. All coaches and committee will be there to answer any questions and help register players through www.playrugbyleague.com. Players will be able to do some training or have a game of touch football. Also a  BBQ will be cooked on the night for a gold coin donation.
The Committee are looking forward to seeing current and new players on Friday night.

Cricket

Rain disrupted senior games last weekend with all senior games drawn after rain moved in on Saturday afternoon.
First grade were well on the way to victory in their game, dismissing City for 107 runs in the 38th over.
They were able to get 10 overs in before the rain came in. With 52 runs on board and no wickets lost, they were looking down the barrel of an easy win, however had to be content with the draw.
They are currently sitting at number 3 on the points table with three rounds of the competition still to play.
Second grade are currently at fourth place on the ladder, with third grade in second place andlooking almost assured of a finals berth.
Junior games were lucky to finish before the rain moved in with all Guyra teams getting a win. This weekend will see Guyra’s two under 11 teams face off against each other at the Guyra Truckstop in what should be a good games. Third grade will also have a home game at the Sporting Complex.
The rest of this rounds games will be played in Armidale.

Men’s Bowls
We start off this week with what could be considered the upset of the weekend, when Roger Cox and Evan Sole played Steven Sole and Robert Walls. Despite the damp conditions the game went on and from the score card Roger and Evan didn’t let a little rain stand in their way onto a victory 23 shots to 12 shots over 21 ends.
The other game played was Andrew Sparke and Barry Presnell who played Barry Walls and Dan Kennedy. This game was also played in very wet weather, but with the all-weather condition greens bowls can be played. From the card it appeared that Dan and Barry managed to handle the conditions the best and go on to win 22 shots to 19 shots over 21 ends.
The team that went to Armidale City were unable to come home victorious as the opposition was a little too persistent.

Remember Bowlers that the Pennant teams are now posted on the notice board so please make yourselves familiar with the teams and make sure if you are playing.

Vets Golf
Last Tuesday we welcomed Reg Davidson and Ray Sweeney back to Vets golf as part of the seventeen players that competed in a Four Ball Par event.
The easy winners with +6 were Len Stanley and Jim Betts. The runners up was a countback from three teams on +4, Paul Redden and Ian Taylor. The other +4’s were Patty Hill and Nancy Prisk as well as Herb Wilson and Wal Chapman.
Nearest the Pins went to Ray Sweeney on the 7th, Chris Newberry the 10th and Wal Chapman on the 18th.
Yesterday twelve players travelled to Glen Innes for their Open.  Next week will be the next round of Pennants hosted by us at Guyra. We expect a large contingent from Armidale so let’s hope we are up to the task.
The week of the 1st and 2nd March we will be running our Open days, so if any Vets willing to play please let Nancy or Wal know as we are taking names now. Also let us know if you can play the Pennants as well.
There is plenty of golf at the moment so take advantage of the good weather and join in.

Ladies’ Golf
Last week the ladies played a Stableford with Black Mountain Nursery sponsoring the day. Julie Walker was the winner with 37 points. Belinda Lenehan was the Runner up with 35 points. Nearest the pin winners were Wendy George on the 7th hole, Karen Oehlers on the 9th hole and Jenny Rogers on the 18th hole.
This week is a Stroke and Putting Competition with the 1st Round of the Golf NSW Medal. Next week is the Ladies Guyra Open 4BBB with Belinda Lenehan as the starter.
