After being hit with a major expense in the off season Guyra Cricket Club has welcomed a funding boost thanks to the #GreaterNewEngland Community Funding Program.
They have received $2000 after winning the public vote in the January round, with CanAssist Gunnedah and the Tamworth Dolly Parton Imagination Library each receiving $500 as runners-up.
Guyra Cricket Club Secretary Janelle Stewart said that the club’s bank account was getting low due having to outlay close to $10,000 to purchase a new roller which is used to maintain the turf wicket at Ted Mulligan Oval.
“We are grateful for this opportunity to bring in some extra funds by participating in the Greater New England Funding Promotion,” Janelle said.
“Fundraising can be quite difficult when you are in a small town, and while we always have great support from local businesses, an extra $2000 will really help to replace the money we have had to outlay.”
“Many thanks must go to Greater Bank for the opportunity to take part in this terrific program and for its continuing support for the New England region.”
It is the third time that a Guyra sporting group has had success in the promotion. Guyra’s senior and junior rugby league clubs were previous winners and to get a third win shows that there is an upside to being part of a small community.
“This win was only possible because Guyra voted for us and helped out by sharing our posts on social media,” Janelle said.
“I encourage other groups who are looking for some extra funding to enter and be part of this terrific program.”
Voting is currently open in the February round of the program and you can find out more at greater.com.au/greaternewengland
