Guyra’s 4th grade side started the afternoon in the rematch from the previous week against South Armidale. It looked like it was going to be a long afternoon with a missed communication from the new defensive pairing, seeing Souths open the scoring in the opening 5 minutes.
The Guyra side continues to improve every game and the scoreboard isn’t a reflection of the effort and attitude this young side is putting in every week on the field and at training.
The team went into the half time at 2 to 0 in favour of Souths after a goal in the dying second of the half. The half time talk was positive from Guyra and they went back out and held their own but ended up going to in the end 5 to 0.
Standout this week was Bryn who puts in every week no matter what position or grade he is asked to play. He got 3 points, 2 points to Ash Holt who finally made it out of goals to direct the younger players around and narrowly miss the goals twice, the 1 point goes to Tom and Lincoln who continue to give 100% every weekend.
Third grade hosted Armidale Westside on Saturday. From the start of the match Guyra began to take control and win the battle in the middle of the pitch, after hitting the post twice Guyra finally found the net with a goal to Tyson Burey. A second goal followed soon after with a strike from Angus Shepherd to put the Caspers in the box seat just before half time.
After halftime Guyra knew they couldn’t let Westside back into the match and a beautiful assist from Sammy allowed Angus to score his second of the match. Sammy and Adam Litherland also found the net in the second half with two thunderous strikes to cap off a dominant display from Guyra.
A great defensive game from the backline made sure Westside were never in the match with the final score being 5-1. Points this week went to Angus Shepherd 3, Rob Starreveld 2 and Sammy and Damien each taking the one point. Guyra host top of the table Inverell next weekend in Guyra
The club would like to thank all the sponsors who make the season possible. This week in particular we would like to thank Costa and the Lions Club of Guyra. We were finally able to break out the new goal nets and gazebo as we had the full four games on the main field for only the second time in ten rounds.
