Men’s Bowls
The weekend saw the continuation of Club Championships played in pleasant weather. Firstly Saturday May 29th saw Robert Moore play Mallie Walls in Major Singles, for the first 6 ends the scores fairly even at 5 shots to 4 shots but that is where things changed as Mallie the Giant Killer took over and never let Robert back into the game. Mallie went on to take the game 31 shots to 14 shots over 29 ends.
Also played was a Club Pairs game between Roger Cox and Evan Sole who played Dan Kennedy and Barry Walls. Roger and Evan started with a flurry going out to a lead 12 shots to 5 shots by end 12 and managed to hold the lead despite a comeback by Dan and Barry and by end 18 there was only 4 shots the difference. Dan as usual put on a master class and by end 20 held a 4 shot lead, 19 shots to 15 shots. With only one end to play Roger and Evan managed to score 4 shots drawing the game, so another end was required to find a winner and it was Roger and Evan that managed the one shot necessary to secure a win 20 shots to 19 shots over 22 ends.
Sunday May 30th saw an Open Singles game played between Andrew Sparke and Colin Stanley. Colin started off strong and was never headed despite Andrew’s efforts to stem the tide but it was all in vein as Colin went on to victory 31 shots to 14 over 30 ends.
Played over the weekend was the Zone 3 Singles played at Armidale City. There were two representatives from Guyra and they were John McIlwain and David Wilcox. David won through to the last 8 to be played at Inverell Sports this weekend, we wish David all the success.
Club Championship Games set down for this weekend:
Saturday June 6th: Start: 12.00pm. Starter and Umpire: Robert Walls.
Club Triples: John Jackson, Geoff Reeves and Wayne Reeves to play Steven Sole, Scott Campbell and Barry Campbell.
Handicap Singles: Robert Walls to play Barry Walls marker Dan Kennedy.
