Shamedy storms home to win Guyra Cup

11th Nov 2025

The feature event of Sunday’s Guyra Cup meeting at Armidale
delivered a thrilling finish, with
Inverell trainer Todd Payne’s in-form galloper ‘Shamedy’ storming home late to snatch victory from Rematch, with Rhythm Is A Dancer close behind in third.
Ridden by Ben Looker, Shamedy came from well back in the field to surge through the line, claiming the prestigious Watson McNamara & Watt Guyra Cup (1400m) by a head.
Shamedy was purchased 12 months ago by Danny Bourke Bloodstock and syndicated to Luke Berger Racing members to race in the North West.
“The horse has a great group of owners, many of whom didn’t know each other until Shamedy,” Luke Berger said.
“Affectionately known as Eddie around the stables, he was successful in the Deepwater and Bundarra Cups this year prior to his Guyra Cup win.”
After the win on Sunday, Shamedy’s summer racing program will include runs in the Inverell Cup, Glen Innes Cup and a return appearance at the Deepwater Cup.
Fine conditions greeted punters for the six-race Guyra Cup meeting, with local and regional trainers sharing in the spoils across an entertaining program which was proudly supported by Guyra businesses. Other results on the day were;
