Sports Report November 4

Cricket
Cricketers managed to get on to the field this week following a total washout the first round, with Guyra getting some mixed results.
The first grade side were
defeated by Hillgrove in their first outing. Batting first Guyra were dismissed for 130, with Hillgrove managing a comfortable 5/134 for the win.
Second grade had to sit out the round after Easts forfeited the game. In thirds, Guyra came out on top in the game played on Ted Mulligan Oval. Hillgrove won the toss and batted first making 7/148 off their 40 overs. In reply Guyra lost six wickets notching up 149 runs for the victory in the 33rd over.
In Junior games the under 15s were defeated by Hillgrove, and the under 13s came out on top also against Hillgrove. Guyra’s two under 11 teams also took to the field with Guyra 1 coming out on top of the combined Uralla/Walcha side and Guyra 2 were defeated by Ex Services.

Men’s Bowls
Saturday October 31st saw the only Club Championship game played and that was a Handicap Singles game between Barry Walls (+6) and Andrew Sparke (-2). Barry with the aid of an 8 shot advantage quickly went out to a 12 shot to nil lead by end 7. Andrew despite the handicap difference soon settled and by end 13 had managed to take the lead and with this momentum and the fact that he never lost the final objective he went on to take the victory 31 shots to 14 shots over 24 ends.

Dan Kennedy, Col Stanley, Greg Mitchell and Grahame Starr to play Steven Sole, Mallie Walls, Evan Sole and Andrew Sparke.

Ladies’ Golf
Last week the ladies played a Par Medal with Donna White as the winner.
Wendy George was the runner up. Nearest the Pin winners were Wendy George on the 10th and 18th holes. Debbie Heffernan on the 9th hole.
This week the ladies are away on the annual golf trip.
Next week the ladies are playing the 4BBB Championship sponsored by Guyra Welding Works. 27 holes with a 9am start. The starter is Wendy Jackson.

Men’s Golf
Last Saturday the mixed championships were played and thé 2020 champions are Pip White and Steven Sole the nett winners were Lisa Ellis and Mal Gaukroger. On Sunday the Vidler’s Butchery sponsored 4BBB championships were played. Thé winners with a score of 74 were Jake Ellis and Ben Vidler. B grade champions are Pat Grills and Peter Presnell. Nett winners for thé Day were Mal Gaukroger and Peter Jackson with Roger Grills and Robert Constance runner up. Sunday also saw thé final of the Monthly Mug, this was won by Len Stanley with a 70 nett. Nearest to the pins were Darrin Towells on the 7th Jake Ellis on the 10th and Ben Vidler on the 18th.Next Sunday will be an 18 hole stableford for the Grazag trophy.

Midweek Golf
Another good week for golf if you played when it wasn’t blowing a gale. Top score this week went to Logan Beechey with 29 points. Congratulations Logan. Peter Presnell is on his golf game and came in with 23 points this week along with Andrew Youman. Next in line were Luke Brazier, Bob Burey, Peter Jackson and Peter Mulligan with 20 points.
Seven teams this week get extra points for all team members playing. Great result. A total of 50 players put their score cards in.

All players must be either golfing members or a club member when playing this competition. There are a few that they would like to invite to become members of the club. Doesn’t cost a lot and requires you to fill out a nomination form.

Vets Golf
Last week the Vets played a Four Ball Stableford. There was a great field of 18 players with some quite good scores. The condition of the course contributed to the good scores with the improvement in the greens after coring. The fairways are also coming along after fertilizing and seeding.
The winners on the day with a great score of 47 points were Len Stanley and John Prisk with the runners up Ian Taylor and Paul Redden with 42. Nearest the Pins were John Prisk on the 10th and Jon Cumming the 18th.
A small working bee was held on Thursday to help clean up some dead trees. Thanks to the Vets who helped. These will be later replaced with similar native trees.
This week was the Melbourne Cup two person Ambrose with the proceeds going to Can Assist.
The Match Play draw is now out so we have all of November to play the first round. Thanks to Phil Devlin for organising the draw.
