Caspers sneak home against Glen Innes

Caspers took to the field against old foes Glen Innes in front of a large and vocal Guyra crowd on Saturday. The boys were out to impress and started off proceedings well, knocking the ball around well and totally dominating possession but finding it tough to finish off the Glen Innes side who were playing a lot of players back in defence to repel the Caspers attack.
This was how the game ran for 25 minutes until a lack of talk in defence cost the Caspers big time when the Glen Innes striker got through on goal to open up the scoring and toned down the huge Casper crowd. Despite this the Caspers were still pushing forward and dominating and were rewarded just before half time when some slick play saw B.J Kliendienst slot home a well-constructed goal.
Half time talk was upbeat and the boys knew they had to pick up the speed of the game to tire their opponents out of the game. The second half was dominated by the boys, but they were struggling to find the polished finish at the end of their plays. I think the boys were trying so hard to win in front of their huge crowd on such a big day that they were just struggling to finish Glen Innes off. To give the opposition credit they were incredibly hard to break down.
Thirty minutes in it took some individual brilliance from Corby Kliendienst who received the ball just outside the box and quickly noticed that the keeper was out of his goals just enough for him to chip a ball over very cheekily to give the Caspers a 2-1 lead.
This was how it remained until full time with the Caspers totally relieved that they could sneak away with the points on such a big occasion.
3 points went to Corby Kliendienst who played his best game to date giving the Glen defence headaches every time he came at them, B.J Cameron getting 2 dominating all the aerial challenges and working tirelessly in defence and attack and B.J Kliendienst getting 1 with his solid as always game.
The boys are away to South Armidale this weekend and hope some of the crowd can come along again to support.
Thanks to everyone who came along and supported our fundraising day for Darryl and Carol Dowden, Saturday really shows that even though a lot of people are struggling through the drought we are still a caring and sincere community who will band together and help each other in times of need, this is not just the Soccer family but the whole GUYRA family that offered support and it is something that everyone should be very proud of, I know that I am.
So once again thanks to every single person that assisted on such a special day.

Second grade
A big day at Guyra for 2nd grade at the Old Boys Day. Guyra started strong showing great ball control and passes linking well between the midfield and forwards and allowing early opportunities that were unlucky not to find the net.
The backs showed solid efforts again with the game going to halftime nil all. Guyra came out strong in the second half dominating the possession but were unlucky to still not find the net before Glen finally broke the backs to score with only 10 minutes to go.
Guyra didn’t give up and fought back to be rewarded a penalty outside of the box, which Rheece Handebo found the net to finish the game with a 1-1 draw.
Massive efforts from the whole team made picking the points hard this week, with the 3 points going to Blake Handebo, 2 points to Rheece Handebo and Carly Harman and Maddi Morgan both earning 1

Third grade
Guyra third grade took on Armidale City Westside 3 at home last weekend. It was a very tight game the whole way with the final score finishing at 1 all. The only goal scored was by the coach Adam Mendes.
Points this week went to Timmy Ellis 3, Logan Beechey 2 and Mal Gaukroger got 1. Guyra 3rds are away on Saturday the 10th August at Harris Park to take on Armidale City West Side 1 the game starts at 1pm.
