Senior Soccer
The 4th grade side started the senior games at home again this past weekend against Glen Innes, Guyra started much better than the week before and continue to learn from past mistakes. The game was very close in the early going and it was only a solo effort from a Glen player that opened the scoring fifteen minutes in. Guyra kept themselves together and tried to establish some attack from the sides where they had the speed advantage on the Glen Innes side. Unfortunately one they got to the front the Glen middle backs were way to strong and shut down the play through most of the match. The game was in the balance at halftime despite the score, however after and early second half goal from Glen, Guyra dropped their head and became frustrated but fought all the way to the end to keep the opposition honest for their win. This week the points went to Gemma Sisson for 3, Bryn for 2 and the other backs Robert and Ashley D took 1 each.
Guyra 3rds hosted top of the table Inverell in Guyra on Saturday. Guyra missing a few key players began the game strongly and took an early 1-0 lead with a pin point free kick from Tyson Burey. Inverell then started to build momentum and with a couple of lucky goals Guyra found themselves 3-1 down. The Casper’s fought hard in the second half and a goal to Sammy put Guyra within touching distance but wasn’t enough with Inverell clinching the victory late. A great effort from all the players that stepped up and filled in especially Tommy Lockyer, Ash Holt, Jake Tibbs, Bryn Archbold and Noah Brennan who all played 4ths as well. 3 points to Sujit in the heart of defence, 2 points to the ever reliable Tyson Burey and 1 point to Rob. Guyra play their biggest game of the season this weekend against Demon Knights as they look to cement themselves inside the top 4. If anyone is in Armidale at 3pm next Saturday, the game will be worth watching.

Vets Golf
Last Tuesday was our 4BBB stableford event and nine players braved the conditions to compete. It was cold. It was windy and it rained but as true veterans we battled on and got in the 18 holes (front nine twice). 37 points was the winning score and that went to Col Walls and Phil Devlin with Wal Chapman and Herb Wilson runners up on 36. No one got a NTP. July has five Tuesdays so the next two will be individual stablefords followed by the 4BBB and the last Tuesday will be a two person Ambrose.

Junior Hockey
Geckos Under 8 played United White Under 8 with a solid 1-0 win. This was achieved by trying to keep the ball wide & always running hard back to defend.
Round 9 saw the Under 12 Goats and Galahs captains (Lachie R & Elsie P) both suit up in the goalie kit to take on United and Harlies, and they definitely worked hard keeping the attacking sides out. Both teams played at the same time so our amazing Under 8s once again stepped up to help out and their improvement and confidence is really showing, especially Ed S who trapped and cleared balls all game as a back for the Goats. There was a lot to be proud about from both games with Freddy P double fist pumping after scoring his first ever goal for the Goats or Clancy R making a big difference in the midfield for the Galahs once she first tackled the road work delays on the New England Hwy.
As we build towards working together as a team, understanding positions & the game of hockey these kids truly are coming together. Well done!!

Women’s Hockey
It was a busy and somewhat exhausting weekend for Guyra’s 2nd Grade team, taking on Flamingos (2–1 win) on Saturday before backing up to face Robb College on Sunday (0–0 draw).
Against Flamingos Belle Lenehan worked hard up front, and was rewarded with a well-deserved goal in the first quarter. The game was full of energy, laughs, and a touch of chaos—highlighted by a new personal best as a certain player slotted a goal off a lovely pass from her daughter, then topped it off with a surprise green card in the same game! Don’t think she will be living this one down for a while yet. A last-minute penalty corner saw Flamingos sneak one back, but Guyra held strong for the win.
Sunday’s match against Robb College was a tough one, with the field turning into a sea of green as we worked hard to keep up with the swift moving university side. Jo Mackie led some beautiful runs into the circle, earning multiple penalty corners. Unfortunately, we couldn’t convert the chances, and the match ended in a scoreless draw.

Men’s Hockey
Last Tuesday night, the weather held off just long enough for a chilly under-lights rematch between Guyra and TAS.
TAS came out firing, putting away three quick goals in the first quarter and setting a tough tone early. But the Guyra squad regrouped and dug in, holding the line for the remainder of the match—only conceding two late goals in the final minutes.
There were plenty of positives, with strong teamwork on display. The halves and centres carried the weight, pushing hard in both attack and defence and keeping Guyra in the contest throughout.
A gritty effort from a team that’s still building momentum into the back half of the season. Finals are still in sight.

Sunday Golf
On Sunday a group of twelve golfers will converge on the Armidale Golf Club to compete in the inaugural Shire Cup.
The first competition will be a 4ball Matchplay event with six points up for grabs.
This will be the first of four events, one to be held every month at alternate courses.
The side will be well represented by the teams of Ian Taylor and Neil Paine, Steve Wilson and Tyson Burey, Darrin Towells and Steve Kliendienst, Matt Jackson and Scott Mendes, Dom and Don Hill and Brett Bishop and Richard Burey. Good luck to the men.
Our course is still very wet, so we ask for people to respect the course and restrict the time on buggies and, if you are driving a buggy, please try to stay off the fairways with them as much as you can.
