Restoration work for historic rail

New England Railway Inc. (NERI) is now on the way to restoring one of the historical rail motor sets located in Armidale thanks to a recent grant funding announcement and a number of donations.
Last week it was announced that New England Railway was successful in gaining a Transport Heritage Grant for $10,903.00. This grant is to be used for replacing windows that were smashed in a significant vandalism attack earlier this year. The money will also go towards reupholstering seats, and painting the inside of the carriages, as well as replacing a section of weather damaged floor.
New England Railway intends investing as much of the money as possible in the Armidale region by buying the majority of products and equipment locally, and utilising local tradespeople where needed.
Planning has also commenced to provide further security to protect the heritage trains from ongoing vandalism attacks.
A fundraiser has been set up on the New England Railway Facebook page, Gofundme.com and direct donations are also welcome. The money raised will provide security fencing, further lighting, and further security cameras.
New England Railway is more than happy to speak to any individuals and businesses that would like donate or provide
sponsorship with the aim to raise $10,000 towards the security enhancements.
In addition to restoration, work has also commenced on National Rail Safety Accreditation which will allow New England Railway to run trains on the main line.
