I am pleased to see that membership of the Guyra and District Chamber of Commerce has grown by nearly 30% since our October AGM. Meetings have been well attended despite COVID restrictions.
During this time the Chamber applied for a grant to have our strategic plan, which currently sits at year 3 of 5, reviewed. We were successful with this application and facilitator Diane Gray led the members thru a workshop to review our priorities etc. This will now be distilled into a revised Strategic Plan with an Operations Plan to focus our attentions on what needs to be done to achieve these Goals.
The Chamber, in partnership with council, has also submitted an application for funding under the “High Street” grants that are currently on offer. The purpose of these grants is to develop attractions and infrastructure to lead people to the main street. Members attended a workshop facilitated by John Wolfenden and we are hoping that we get approval for this and we can embark on further consultation with the community on a way to implement this concept.
The Peony Rose special day at Woolly Lamb and in the Main Street bought a lot of visitors to our town and clearly showed us that we can entice people here with just a little effort. Big thanks to all who made this the success that it was.
Currently we have requested a meeting with council and Essential Energy who are about to install new power poles in the main street. The chamber became aware that what is currently planned is not what was to be delivered under the main street upgrade plan.
It appears current people at Council and Essential Energy are unable to locate the original plans hence we are meeting with them this Wednesday to make clear our expectations with respect to these works and the future of our CBD.
In coming months we are planning some hands on workshops to help businesses identify opportunities to grow their business, make them more resilient, digital marketing and networking. These will be well promoted and I would urge members to take advantage of these workshops and help build a stronger Guyra Community.
