Guyra Central School (GCS) has hosted the ‘Our Mob, Our Game Come N Try’ basketball program throughout Term 2, thanks to the generous support of the NSW Basketball Association.
The initiative has brought energy and enthusiasm to Monday afternoons, with up to 27 primary students participating each week.
The sessions have offered more than just basketball training—they've fostered teamwork, skill-building, and community spirit. Each session concludes with a friendly game, after students enjoy a well-earned afternoon tea provided by the Association.
GCS Relieving Principal Mr Tim Lloyd said the program has been a resounding success and a valuable addition to the school’s extracurricular offerings.
“This program has been a fantastic opportunity for our students to engage in sport, learn new skills, and build confidence,” said Lloyd.
“It’s been wonderful to see staff and students working together to make this happen.
“Mr Jesse Bennett, Mr Tremane Patterson, and Miss Eunice Blair have been instrumental, and our secondary students Jake Beard, Tyler Beard, and Seth Bennett have shown real leadership in helping to coach and mentor the younger students.
The NSW Basketball Association’s contributions extended beyond weekly coaching, with the organisation also providing basketballs, two sets of team shirts, and coaching accreditation opportunities for staff.
“We’re extremely grateful for the support from NSW Basketball,” Lloyd added. “We hope that everyone involved has thoroughly enjoyed the program.”
