Armidale Regional Council has celebrated the opening of the expanded and upgraded Curtis Park Playground in Armidale.
The playground expansion and upgrade was designed and delivered based on extensive community feedback, and thanks to funding from the Australian Government via a Local Roads Community Infrastructure grant and a financial contribution from Council.
The original Adventure Playground at Curtis Park opened in 2020 and has been widely used by families throughout the community. However, since it opened Council received feedback that the area should be fully fenced and that there is not enough play equipment to suit all age ranges and abilities.
The new fenced safe zone encloses an area of 1.6 acres, joining into the previously existing playground fences. The expanded playground includes natural play elements that tell the story of the place and spark imagination, supplementing already existing play experiences.
The new play equipment includes a WE GO accessibility swing, 4.5m mammoth net swing, natural rock yarning circle, natural rock wall with varying levels, and a ‘mouse wheel’.
