Launch events for local author

04th Mar 2025

Black Mountain children’s author, Bec Nanayakkara, is set to release her third picture book and will be celebrating with a series of local events.
The local book tour kicked off last week in Armidale and free storytime sessions will be held at Uralla Library on March 11th and Guyra Library on March 12th.
Ms Nanayakkara’s new picture book, The Jolly Swagman, published by Woodslane Press and beautifully illustrated by Kim de Haan, is a creative re-telling of Banjo Paterson’s Waltzing Matilda.
The story follows Will, a young boy who dreams of going waltzing Matilda with Ollie – the swagman who comes to shear at his family’s station. With Ollie’s help, Will is learning all he can to become a real swagman. But when Ollie is accused of stealing a jumbuck and disappears, can Will use his swagman skills to make things right?
The Jolly Swagman is Ms Nanayakkara’s third book following Grow Big Little Seed, published by Hardie Grant and The Book Star, published by Affirm Press. Another two picture books have been signed for 2026 release.
A Free storytime Session will be held at Guyra Library on March 12th, starting at10:30am. Ms. Nanayakkara and illustrator, Ms. de Haan, will also host an interactive online book launch in March.
