Trees, Power and Proof: What Australia’s Climate Policy means for New England Graziers

Speakers will cover practical topics such as carbon income, biodiversity credits, renewable energy lease deals
14th Oct 2025

Guyra graziers and landholders are invited to a special information evening later this month to explore what Australia’s changing climate policies mean on the ground for local farms.
Following a successful session in Walcha earlier this month, the “Trees, Power & Proof” event will come to Guyra Bowling Club on Thursday, October 29 from 6:00 to 8:00pm.
Australia’s climate targets have tightened - Net Zero by 2050, a 43% cut by 2030, and a new 2035 goal of 62–70% below 2005 levels - and local producers are being encouraged to learn how those policies affect the New England region.
Speakers will cover practical topics such as carbon income, biodiversity credits, renewable energy lease deals, and the paperwork and timeframes involved. Learn what “Scope 3” means and hear about ecosystem metrics being used to describe your on farm natural resources.
Attendees will also hear about local research from UNE and CSIRO’s Chiswick farm, as well as insights from a local grazier taking part in the Farming For The Future and Woolmark+ insetting projects.
“This is a straight-talk session about what these changes mean at the farm gate,” organisers said.
“Bring your questions, even a paddock map if you like.”
The event is free to attend. RSVPs are encouraged to Michael Taylor (0412 332 484) or Kerri Pearson (0400 992 551).
