Armidale Business Chamber (now Business New England) will soon be announcing its local gift card program that encourages people to spend locally in the Armidale and Guyra region.
The inspiration behind the program has been the severe economic conditions that are affecting our local businesses, from the pandemic, a severe drought and fires. The program supports the community by encouraging people to shop local and keep funds circulating in the town.
The program is facilitated by ‘Why Leave Town’, a NSW operated business, and is supported by the Armidale Regional Council and both the NSW and Australian Governments. The Why Leave Town program has seen success in assisting local businesses in over 38 regional communities across Australia.
The program will allow the public to purchase a gift card that can be used at any registered stores within the Armidale Local Government area. All registered businesses will have their EFTPOS terminal identification number stored within the Armidale program, linking their terminal to receive funds.
Members of both the local community and visiting tourists will be able to purchase the cards at a value of their choosing (up to $500), either online, or at one of the locally affiliated load up stores. The customer can then spend the funds at any registered store within the Armidale area.
There are no limits to how many businesses within Armidale can take part in the program and we encourage all locally owned businesses to take part, especially now in the lead up to the Christmas period.
