An upcoming 1.5-day workshop to be held in Guyra will provide insights and information about bushfires and subsequent management of native animals.
The workshop will be held on October 29th and 30th at the Guyra Community Hall.
This course aims to provide the participant with basic knowledge on how to respond to the rescue of wildlife in the event of a bushfire. It is not intended to replace the need for veterinary treatment for animals affected by fire.
Facilitators for the workshop will be Dr Howard Ralph and Tania Duratovic. Dr Ralph is a veterinary surgeon, anaesthetist and doctor of medicine with qualifications in wildlife medicine and clinical forensics.
For over 40 years Dr Ralph has practiced medicine, in humans and animals. He teaches various aspects of wildlife treatment and care around Australia. With his wife, Glenda, he established Southern Cross Wildlife Care which includes a purpose-built wildlife treatment centre in the NSW Southern Tablelands.
Tania is a fauna ecologist and qualified veterinary nurse who also works at Southern Cross Wildlife Care. She has worked for over 20 years for the NSW Department of Planning, Industry & Environment on threatened species and now manages animal research ethics.
