Youth of the Year regional finals

The regional final of the Lions Youth of the Year quest was held in Inverell on Saturday March 8th. Guyra was represented by Eli Wood who won the right to represent the Guyra Lions Club in the initial round of the competition which was held on November 16th ,2024.
Eli competed against fellow Guyra Central School students Lillianna Eddy and Aukustino Alefosio in the openng round.
The competition requires students to be assessed by a panel of three judges following interviews and public speaking
The Lions Youth of the Year program has a proud history in encouraging and fostering leadership skills in Australian students approaching the end of their high school years.
Youth of the Year puts emphasis on qualities like contribution to the community and school, public speaking, academic skills, sporting and cultural involvement.
Eli was supported at the regional finals by his father Duncan, grandmother Margaret, and Jim and Joyce Betts from Guyra Lions.
The Lions Club of Inverell were the hosts with students from Inverell, Guyra, Armidale and Glen Innes competing
After much deliberation by judges, the overall winner of Youth of the Year regional final was Camilla Coupland from Armidale, with the Public Speaking section awarded to Jacqueline Paton from Inverell.
All the students represented their schools and club admirably and a great night was had by all.
There was very little between first and last and it was a great performance by Eli. A big thank you to Eli for representing our club.
