2023 Lions Club changeover

The Lions Club of Guyra held their annual changeover on the weekend. President Jim Betts, who will continue in the role for a further twelve months, reflected on a successful year for the club in his annual report.
Despite being low on numbers, the club has continued to support a number of local organisations, as well as Lions projects.
They supported the Guyra VRA $2000, Guyra branch Can Assist $500, Ronald McDonald House Tamworth $500, Westpac Rescue Helicopter (Tamworth), Australian Lions Foundation $500, Lions Club International Foundation $500, Lions Prostate Cancer research $500, Lions Childhood Cancer Appeal $500, Lions Cord Blood Appeal $500, Careflight $500, Guyra Junior Rugby League $500, Guyra Junior Cricket $500, Guyra Junior Soccer $500, and to the local schools for the book prizes of 2022 $600.

President’s report
I would firstly like to thank my wife Joyce and members of the Lions Club, their wives, partners and volunteers that have supported me for this year, also to the many business houses that have assisted the club in various ways, Kirk’s IGA for allow the club to sit in store to sell raffle tickets in our Easter and Christmas raffles, also to Dasha’s Hardware, CT Electrics, Guyra Pharmacy and The Guyra Café for their donations and support to myself and the club.
It has been a successful year but has had its challenges, with the club having low numbers and the few that we do have, have did a magnificent job, manning street stalls, the shift at the Lamb and Potato festival, catering at the show, and other projects that the club has been involved with over the year.
It was unfortunate that the club had to cancel and decline to cater for two events throughout the year. Firstly one was called off because of wet weather and when rescheduled we were unable to assist and the second was held on a weekend that we were involved in other ways.
Our shift at the Lamb and Potato festival was again hectic and I would like to thank our members, wives and partners as well as the volunteers that helped us on the day, many hands make for light work.
Once again the club held the Youth of the Year quest and was fortunate enough to have two contestants, Harrison Dullaway and Dante Lloyd. Dante was successful at club level and went on to represent our club at the combined zone final held at Armidale hosted by the Armidale Dumaresq Lions Club. A great contest was between Dante and Fred Kearney of the Armidale School who was sponsored by Armidale Dumaresq Lions Club. Fred was successful and went on to win both State and National finals and goes on to Boston to compete at International level.
The club held a sausage sizzle for a vaccination clinic at the Guyra MPS and hosted the senior citizens mystery outing on 28th May this year, a little later than usual, and all that attended enjoyed the day. Thanks to Glen and Natalie of GAVNE enterprises for supplying the bus for this. It is hoped that next year we will be able to hold this in March.
I would like to express my gratitude to the Guyra Community for their support over the last 12 months and look forward to the same support for the coming year.
