Guyra Can Assist President’s Report 2024

05th Nov 2024

As a service group in a small rural community we are indeed privileged to receive the outstanding support of our local community. While very few families escape the dread of a cancer diagnosis to someone close to them, we are extremely fortunate to have their support.
Over the last 12 months, there has been an increase in requests for assistance. This, I believe, is a direct result of the effort we have made to increase our profile and getting information out about the services we can offer. Our membership has also grown over the last 12 months.
We have continued to raise funds by catering, conducting monthly meat raffles, holding street stalls and other raffles throughout the year. We were again very fortunate to receive substantial donations from the Guyra Soccer Club, Tour de Rocks, the Regional Australia Bank Partnerships Program and the New England Garden Festival.
The garden festival is on again at the beginning of November and we will again be assisting as volunteers for this huge event, and I encourage everyone to take time to get involved.
This branch could not function without the support of a wonderful group of members, who are always willing to help where they can. In saying that, we need to encourage new members to step up and continue the work our executives have done so well over many years. Like all businesses, change and fresh blood can bring new life and direction.
In closing, I thank Sue for her support and the work she does behind the scenes to assist with the requests and paperwork that is required and Lyn who has kept a track of our finances.
We enter the coming year in a great position financially and look forward to being able to assist anyone, who asks, for assistance through their cancer journey.
