Landholders push back

Energy companies proposing renewables in the New England region of NSW are facing push back from landholders and the broader community frustrated at the state government’s poor rollout of the energy transition – lack of strategic land use planning, lack of real engagement with impacted landholders, and irresponsible management of environmental protection and community wellbeing.
Responsible Energy Development for New England Inc. (ReD4NE) is an umbrella group uniting disaffected landholder groups and communities, raising concerns about project specific renewables proposals, formed to lobby all levels of government and voice marginalised community objections. ReD4NE has now called on the NSW Government for a moratorium on development pending more meaningful engagement on critical issues the community see as eroding social licence.
There are implied potential impacts for renewables investors with the current planning assessment and energy infrastructure struggling to accommodate existing proposals, and communities anxious that they will be left with stranded foreign-owned assets with no accountability.
